"It means a great deal to those who are oppressed to know that they are not alone. And never let anyone tell you that what you are doing is insignificant." – Bishop Desmond Tutu
Alone, a candle – Amnesty's symbol – is a fragile, flickering light that can be extinguished by a whisper. Shared by millions, it becomes a shining beacon of hope. It becomes Amnesty International.
This month, we're passing the candle to you. Keep it bright with your gift. Pass it on to inspire others to join our movement.

Aftermath of violence in Kyrgyzstan

Beginning June 10th, an outbreak of violence gripped south Kyrgyzstan, resulting in an estimated 400,000 Uzbek and Kyrgyz people being forced to flee their homes. The deadly clashes, which are said to have started from rival gang violence, rapidly escalated into large-scale arson, looting and killings in mainly Uzbek-populated districts.
Thousands of Uzbek families are still living in makeshift camps or hiding in isolated parts of the country without humanitarian assistance. To this day, no independent investigation has been set up to investigate these events.
An impartial, international investigation is the key to restoring sustainable peace and the rule of law in Kyrgyzstan.

My donations to Amnesty have helped change the lives of people I've never met." | |
