In response to comments about CIA torture and Amnesty International attributed by The Guardian to Dr James Mitchell, Zeke Johnson Director of Amnesty International USA's Security & Human Rights Program, issued the following statement:

"If he wants to help Amnesty, Dr. Mitchell should start by supporting our call for all those involved in torture to be investigated and prosecuted. Should that day come, he can rest assured that we would campaign for his rights to be respected, including his right to a fair trial. He should also support release of the full Senate Intelligence Committee report on CIA torture, as well as declassification of the program itself. The public has a right to the truth."

Amnesty International is a Nobel Peace Prize-winning grassroots activist organization with more than 3 million members in more than 150 countries campaigning for human rights worldwide. The organization investigates and exposes abuses, educates and mobilizes the public, and works to protect people wherever justice, freedom, truth and dignity are denied.
