Egyptian national Sameh Bassiouni Abdullah Alam was arrested on 11 February in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). He was sentenced to one month in prison in April for “falsely reporting a crime” but has not yet been released. His whereabouts are unknown and he is at risk of torture and other ill-treatment.

Calling on the Iranian authorities to release Ismail Abdi immediately and unconditionally and drop all charges against him as he is a prisoner of conscience held solely for his peaceful trade union activities
Urging them to ensure that he is granted regular access to an independent lawyer of his own choosing;
Reminding them that Iran has ratified the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, which recognizes the right of everyone to form and join trade unions of their choice for the promotion and protection of their economic and social interests.
