United Arab Emirates: Order a Retrial of Mosaab Ahmed ‘Abdel-‘Aziz Ramadan (UA 21/15)


 
On 27 June the Federal Supreme Court in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) sentenced Mosaab Ahmed ‘Abdel-‘Aziz Ramadan to three years in prison followed by deportation. He was tried on charges including running an “international group in the UAE affiliated to the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood”.

On 27 June the Federal Supreme Court in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) sentenced Mosaab Ahmed ‘Abdel-‘Aziz Ramadan to three years in prison followed by deportation. He was tried on charges including running an “international group in the UAE affiliated to the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood”. He has no right to appeal the decision.
 
1) Please write immediately in Arabic, English or your own language:
  • Urging the UAE authorities to order a retrial of Mosaab Ahmed ‘Abdel-‘Aziz Ramadan with full international fair trial guarantees, including the right to appeal the conviction and sentence to a higher tribunal;
  • Urging them to ensure that any proceedings against him exclude statements extracted under torture or other-ill-treatment and to order a full and independent investigation into the circumstances of his arrest and subsequent detention and the allegations of torture;
  • Seeking guarantees that he will not be deported to Egypt where he would be at risk of arrest, torture and unfair trial.
