Azerbaijani peace activist and human rights defender Leyla Yunus was on her way to a press conference on July 30 when men believed to be police stopped her car and forced the driver to change direction. Her whereabouts were not known until the Office of the Prosecutor General called Leyla Yunus's husband, Arif Yunus, several hours later to tell him that she had been detained. Arif was then detained as well. Leyla faces charges including treason, tax evasion, fraud and misuse of authority. She is an outspoken critic of the Azerbaijani government, and a Prisoner of Conscience.
