4 November 2017 - Tempe, Arizona – Arizona State University, Memorial Union

It is our sincere pleasure to invite you to this year’s Western Regional Conference.

Join us November 4, 2017, as we stand shoulder to shoulder in the great city of Tempe to make a lasting human rights impact. The Western Regional Conference brings together hundreds of Amnesty members and other human rights activists from around the country. With our Grassroots Host Committee and Regional Office as co-hosts, together we will continue our tradition of engaging in networking opportunities, inspiring plenaries, and hands-on skill-building workshops, as well as shaping the policies of the organization.

As activists, we will be challenged to initiate change within our own communities. This will only happen with you – we need you there!

Don’t forget to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter at @AMNESTYUSA.

Action Alley and Ideas Fair

The Action Alley is a forum to learn about and take action on human rights issues, current AIUSA priorities, and a space for AIUSA groups to creatively display their ideas and accomplishments. We invite and encourage all attendees–including local groups, student groups, country specialists and thematic coordination groups, other member leaders, and community organizations–to apply for a space at the Action Alley. The Action Alley provides an opportunity and location for the sharing of ideas and insights that cannot be accommodated by conference programming. Past displays have shared particularly successful community events and activities, human rights promotion ideas and techniques, and information on human rights-related topics.

If interested please submit an application by Friday, October 13th. Space is limited so apply today

The more people and support we secure for our Regional Conference, the more we will accomplish for the human rights movement, while ensuring an optimal experience for our attendees. Your participation in the conference is crucial to its success, so we all need to spread the word!

Here are a few ways you can help and show your support:

Submit a Resolution

Submit a resolution by September 1, 2017 (student deadline: September 15, 2017)

One of the exciting things about Amnesty International is that, as a grassroots membership organization, members have a voice in what Amnesty does. Resolutions are the means by which members of AIUSA have the power to affect policy decision-making at the regional, national and international levels. This is your chance to exercise your democratic right as a member of AIUSA.

It’s easy to submit a resolution! You provide the idea, and we’ll help you put it in the proper format. Please contact the National Resolutions Committee at [email protected] if you have questions or would like more information about how to submit a resolution. You may also contact the NRC chair, Roni Kay O’Dell at [email protected]

Vote on Resolutions

In order to participate in the membership resolution process, you must be a dues-paying member of AIUSA. The good news is, it’s not too late to become a member! Sign up here, or join or renew onsite to enjoy full participation in the AIUSA resolution process at the Regional Conferences.

Recruit Others

The more people attend our Regional Conference, the more we will accomplish for the human rights movement and the better experience everyone will have, so we all need to spread the word! Challenge yourself or your group to sign up at least 1, 2, or 3 more people! In fact, a good percentage of our current members and activists first learned about Amnesty International at a Regional Conference! Let’s get to it!

Grassroots Host Committee

We would like to thank the members of the Grassroots Host Committee for their help in making the 2017 Western Regional Conference a success:

Talima Flores, Rachel Wetle, Julissa Peiro, Jose Pina, Zac James, Lee Goodrum, Jessica Roberson and Shannon Rosset.
