Amnesty International 2019 Lobby Day in Washington, D.C.!
The 2019 Lobby Day will equip Amnesty International USA’s members and supporters across the country to lobby Members of Congress to support human rights. A day long training will take place on Sunday, May 5th, where participants will have the opportunity to hear from human rights and advocacy experts, while also building community with fellow Amnesty members from across the country.

Capitol Skyline is our host hotel where our event takes place and all participants will be lodged, located in Washington, DC. Amnesty International USA will fully cover lodging, food, and travel for participants unless their application indicates otherwise. All participants will be placed with another participant for May 4, 2019 (check-in) – May 6, 2019 (check-out).

In order to attend Lobby Day 2019, you must apply on or before April 8th, 2019, at 5:00 PM EST. As the application will be a rolling application, we encourage you to apply early. We are excited to be able to fully cover travel (bus, air, or train) travel for all Lobby Day 2019 participants in addition to lodging (shared room) for Saturday, May 4th, and Sunday, May 6th in Washington, DC. Participants are welcome to extend their trip at their own expense.
We are hoping to have AIUSA members and supporters attend who are interested in learning more about AIUSA priority issues, and want to lobby with us not only in May but beyond. We look forward to having participants from across the country and will have limited slots per state, so please apply early – everyone is encouraged to apply!

What if I’d like to stay in my own room?
Amnesty International USA is covering all lodging costs for all participants. If you’d prefer your own room, you will be responsible for half of the room costs (estimated at $100 a night). Further accommodations will be made on a case by case basis.
Can I be under the age of 18 and still participate?
Yes! Amnesty International USA strongly encourages everyone to participate. Please note that as a minor, you are required to have a chaperone accompany you. In order to register as a chaperone, they will have to fill out an application of their own. If accepted, a waiver must be signed by your chaperone and sent to [email protected] no later than April 22nd.
What meals will I have to pay for?
Meals covered by Amnesty International USA include a Saturday night reception with hors d’oeuvres, breakfasts for both Sunday and Monday, and lunch for both Sunday and Monday. Any other meals will be on your own.
How do I get from the airport to the hotel? Will AIUSA be covering that?
No, AIUSA will only cover the cost of your city to city travel (bus, train, plane). In addition to Uber, Lyft, and other taxi services, you can use a shuttle service (GO the Airport Shuttle; SuperShuttle).
When will I get my schedule of meetings?
A schedule will be provided at least one week in advance of Lobby Day. There will also be a pre-event webinar to help prepare you for a day of lobbying on the Hill.
What if I’d like to extend my trip and stay at the hotel?
The Capitol Skyline is at capacity in the days preceding and following Lobby Day. If you wish to stay in D.C. longer, you will have to find your own lodging.

Amnesty International USA welcomes participants who are 17 years of age or younger, but require a waiver form be completed by a legal guardian and that a chaperone accompany you for the entire duration of the event. AIUSA is unable to assume responsibility for minors. Please read the waiver carefully. If you will be under the age of 18 on May 5, 2019, please sign the waiver and email a copy to [email protected] no later than April 22nd, 2019.
