Kate Hixon

Kate Hixon is the Advocacy Director for Africa at Amnesty International USA. Kate comes to Amnesty having spent the past four years at the British Embassy where she severed as the Senior Policy Advisor for Africa and UN issues. In this role she advised on range of policy matters related to foreign and security policy issues in sub-Saharan Africa, multi-lateral institutions and human rights.

Previously, Kate served as the Institutional Relations Manager at the United Nations Foundation where she helped identify potential donor opportunities for the Foundation’s various programs of work. Prior to that Kate worked at both Freedom House and the National Democratic Institute where she managed and implemented human rights and democracy programs in sub-Saharan Africa. Her past experience also includes a fellowship with the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission and an internship at the International Criminal Court. Kate has a Masters in Human Rights Law from the London School of Oriental and African Studies and a Masters in International Relations from the London School of Economics.
