Southern Regional Activism Conference

IMPORTANT UPDATE

  • Hurricane Helene has prompted Gov. Kemp to issue a state of emergency for Georgia. Out of an abundance of caution, the Southern Regional Activism Conference has been switched to a VIRTUAL ACTIVISM CONFERENCE.
  • We are waiving the registration fee for all activists: click here to register. All previous registrants will be refunded. We will reach out shortly with instructions on how to join virtually via Whova, our trusted virtual conference platform.

Our Southern Regional Activism Conference 2024 (RAC’24) has been planned by a working group of members and staff, exemplifying our model of shared leadership. AIUSA will deepen engagement and strengthen our movement for Human Rights. We encourage members in the South and Mid-West to attend the Southern Regional Activism Conference.

Subsidy

For RAC’24, AIUSA will offer a subsidy to cover lodging for the conference. If you have two or more people in a room and both apply for a housing subsidy, both nights (Friday and Saturday) will be covered. The subsidies are intended for active AI members and activists that would otherwise be unable to attend the conference due to financial constraints.

Lodging at Southern RAC’24 for one night per person; if you have two or more people in a room and both apply for a housing subsidy, both nights (Friday and Saturday) will be covered.

Complete one application form by the September 15th deadline. Each person must apply for their own subsidy.

After the application deadline has passed, we will make final decisions and notify applicants that have been tentatively awarded a subsidy. At this point you will have until September 19th, 2024 to accept the subsidy in writing (email) and register for the conference. You must provide proof of registration and submit your minor waiver forms (if applicable) if you intend to accept the subsidy; otherwise it will be awarded to someone on the waitlist.

Those actively involved with AIUSA are encouraged to apply.

We will be looking for complete and well thought out applications demonstrating commitment to meet all requirements. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Although priority will be given to active AIUSA members with a demonstrated need who are fundraising to attend the RAC’24, we are committed to considering all eligible applicants, student or local activist, who meet the criteria above while also ensuring national representation.

Community Agreements are an aspiration, or collective vision, for how we want to be in relationship with one another.

While participating via our trusted platform Whova we encourage you to:

  • Be mindful of your surroundings and of your fellow participants.
  • Be mindful of the speaker during sessions by asking questions in the chat box and not having side conversations
  • Be present! Stay engaged, participate, and make room for others to participate.
  • Assume good faith and be aware of your own impact.
  • Do not spam message boards. This restricts access to posts by other attendees.
  • Refrain from submitting unrelated comments to the session you are attending.

Violation of Community Agreements

Violation of these community agreements may result in the removal of an attendee from the meeting space. Continued violation will result in removal from the conference.

Unacceptable Behavior

Unacceptable behaviors include, but are not limited to:

  • Sustained disruption of sessions or other conference-related events
  • Posting harmful or prejudicial verbal or written comments or visual images related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, disability, age, appearance, or other personal characteristics.
  • Intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory, or demeaning speech or actions by any participant at RAC’24, at all related events, and in one-on-one communications carried out in the context of RAC’24.
  • Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior. I.e. reposting disparaging comments or otherwise promoting any of the above-mentioned behaviors.

If you are subject to or witness unacceptable behavior

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns on-site, please contact our Care Ambassador Ebony Brickhouse at [email protected] immediately. If you are attending virtually please contact [email protected]. All complaints will be treated seriously and responded to promptly. The cultivation of community and trust among those who take part is critical to our movement. RAC’24 aims to be an inclusive, safe, and welcoming environment for all.

AIUSA is committed to promoting an environment that is professional and in which all employees, members, interns, volunteers and other individuals are treated with dignity and respect.

AIUSA will not tolerate harassment of or among employees, members, interns, volunteers or others because of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, genetic information, pregnancy, marital status, military or veteran status or any other protected characteristic.

Harassment includes verbal or physical conduct which may offend, denigrate or belittle any person because of or due to any of the characteristics described above. Such conduct includes pictures, jokes, comments, epithets, innuendoes, name-calling or any other behavior which creates an environment that is derogatory, intimidating, hostile or offensive to anyone. Conduct prohibited by this policy is unacceptable in the workplace and in any other AIUSA related setting outside the workplace, such as during business trips, organizational meetings, and other AIUSA events.
