Amnesty International in Second Life
Amnesty International-E is the official Amnesty International local group in the virtual world of Second Life. Second Life was developed in June 2003 by Linden Lab and is a free client program downloadable from the internet. Residents meet, work, volunteer, shop, listen to live music, attend seminars, hold meetings, socialize, shop, and explore the incredible creations of other Second Life residents.
Second Life affords its residents the ability to build and shape their own world. Using the building tools that are part of the software, any avatar can create a world (a Second Life) of their own. Second Life has afforded Amnesty International – E a new way to connect globally with like minded members and world citizens.
AI-E is committed to upholding the mission of Amnesty International by providing an internet based platform. "Amnesty's mission is rooted in a fundamental commitment to the rights, dignity, and well-being of every person on Earth. Recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, Amnesty's more than 2.2 million members worldwide fight to uphold the ideals enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights."
Amnesty International-E members participate in the advancement of human rights and Amnesty's mission in the same way that most local groups do. We just do it from our computers. We raise funds, recruit members, take urgent actions, focus on specific concerns, have AWESOME events! and support each other as a community with common goals. We network with like minded organizations and share in our resources.
Anyone can get involved with Amnesty-E! All members enjoy the ability to post their relevant events and concerns in the notices section and we may all communicate on the group channel. We believe that this is in keeping with Amnesty International's open membership. We ask only that respect is shown to every individual.
Amnesty International-E is headquartered on the Four Bridges sim and is a part of the Four Bridges Project. Contact Amnesty-E here>>
