What is Amnesty International?

Amnesty International is a worldwide movement of people acting on the conviction that governments must not deny individuals their basic human rights. Recipient of the 1977 Nobel Peace Prize, Amnesty International bases its work on the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. As part of its campaign to protect fundamental human rights, Amnesty International regularly publishes country reports and other documents on human rights issues around the world. All published information is scrupulously analyzed and cross-checked by our research department and legal offices in London to ensure the integrity of the final reports. These reports are regarded by experts in various fields of study as one of the most reliable sources for information on human rights issues. The accuracy and strict impartiality with which our research is conducted have reinforced our reputation and made us a vital resource for many leading news organizations, government agencies, lawyers, professors, and students. Our publications are invaluable reference tools for any library.
