Regional Refugee Coordinator (RCC)

Members: one or two for each AIUSA region
Terms:
Each RRC commits to a minimum of two years. To stagger terms, some of the positions will start with a two-year term, with two options to renew that term, for a total of six years. Other positions will start with a three-year term, with one option of an additional two-year term, for a total of five years. RRC's are encouraged to actively recruit and train their replacements when the end of their terms approach.

RRC Duties:
- Liaise between the AIUSA refugee program, refugee program steering committee, regional office, student and local groups, and AIUSA members in his or her region.
- Participate in regional trainings and workshops for AIUSA members and the public on refugee issues.• Act as regional clearinghouse for refugee materials, ideas, and actions.
- Educate AIUSA staff and the public on refugee issues in his or her region.
- Advocate for and participate in refugee-related panels at AIUSA regional conferences.
- Coordinate AIUSA interventions on behalf of refugees and asylum seekers in his or her region, under the supervision of the AIUSA refugee program.
- Advise on the most feasible, effective, and appropriate role for AIUSA members in the refugee program.
- Participate on monthly conference calls with refugee program staff, steering committee, and/or other regional refugee coordinators.
- Maintain regular contact (at least twice yearly) with student and local groups in their area to advocate/educate on refugee issues.
- Facilitate membership growth in refugee program, focusing on adding new AIUSA members interested in refugee issues.
- Advocate for increased media coverage of AI refugee issues in his/her geographic area.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Be an AIUSA member for at least two years, or have familiarity with AIUSA structure.
- Familiarity with refugee issues.
- Ability to carry out the objectives set forth above.
