AIUSA's Refugee Program stands ready to help asylum seekers, but we are not able to help everyone directly and individually.

The following are brief guidelines to help ensure that information reaches asylum seekers as quickly and helpfully as possible.
For country conditions information, most Amnesty International Annual Reports and Country Reports covering 1996 to the present are now available at http://web.amnesty.org/ai.nsf.
The Refugee Program does not provide legal consultation or representation in asylum or immigration matters. Some legal service providers who have volunteered to accept such cases are listed at http://www.usdoj.gov/eoir/probono/states.htm and at http://www.usdoj.gov/eoir/statspub/accreditedreproster.pdf.
Amnesty has a network of volunteer country specialists who can help with specific verification questions about human rights conditions in asylum seekers' home countries and, on rare occasions, fuller analysis. Please contact the Refugee program for details.
If at all possible, send us your request in writing, with specific information on the basis for the asylum (or Convention against Torture) claim. Tell us, as specifically as possible, what sort of information is needed regarding the country of origin. If available, please send a completed I-589 form and/or affidavit by the asylum applicant. Please also include a return address.
