WANTED: Energetic and committed human rights activists interested in police abuse issues in Chicago
The Amnesty International USA Midwest Regional Office (MWRO) and OUTfront LGBT human rights program are seeking interns to work on a local organizing project in Chicago connected to the current AI campaign against police brutality. Must be able to commit to 10-20 hours of volunteer work per week. This internship will be based in the MWRO in Chicago.
Successful candidate will act as the primary community liaison between the MWRO/Amnesty OUTfront and community stakeholders and coalition partners. S/he will be responsible for helping develop and implement MWRO/Amnesty OUTfront organizing strategy in Chicago.
Responsibilities:- Conduct outreach to community stakeholders and identify potential coalition partners.
- Research relevant information connected to campaign.
- Develop user-friendly campaigning materials.
- Maintain ongoing communication with allied local officials.
- Represent MWRO/Amnesty OUTfront at meetings with community partners.
- Organize and facilitate MWRO/Amnesty OUTfront meetings with community stakeholders.
- Organize any special events connected to campaign.
- Other assignments as needed.
Organizing experience a must and knowledge about the issues a plus.
