Detained Student Activist Released!
Syrian refugee Fadi Mansour finally reunited with his family in Melbourne, Australia, on 11 June. He had been held in the Adana Removal Centre in south-eastern Turkey since 19 March, after he was arbitrarily detained for more than one year in inhumane conditions in Istanbul’s Atatürk Airport.
Human rights defender Mohammed Saleh al-Bajadi was released on 7 April from a rehabilitation centre where he had spent four months after being discharged from prison in November 2015. He remains banned from travelling until 2020.
Seven of the 12 Syrian refugees detained in Düziçi camp, Osmaniye province, in southern Turkey, were released on 20 May. The other five, a woman and her four children, requested to be voluntarily returned to Syria and were taken to the Syrian border on 19 May.
Omani writer, journalist and human rights activist Sulaiman al-Ma’mari was released without charge on 19 May, following 22 days detained in solitary confinement. The Omani authorities have yet to give a reason for Sulaiman al-Ma’mari’s arrest.
