Nigerian Torture Survivor Freed!
Two Libyan men, Mo’ad Mohammad al-Hashmi al-Harari and ‘Adel Rajeb Nasef, were acquitted of all charges by the Federal Supreme Court in the United Arab Emirates on 14 March. Mo’ad Mohammed al-Hashmi was released on 27 March and ‘Adel Rajeb Nasef on 28 March.
Joseph Afandi, a journalist with the El Tabeer daily newspaper who was held incommunicado by the South Sudanese National Security Service (NSS) since 29 December 2015 has been released.
Political activist Ko Wai Lu has been released from prison in Myanmar upon completion of his sentence.
Bus driver and father of four Adrián Vásquez Lagunes was released from prison on 2 December near Tijuana, Mexico, more than three years after he was arrested and tortured by state police and accused of being a high-level drug trafficker. Amnesty International has campaigned for his release as part of the global Stop Torture Campaign.
