Detained Student Activist Released!
Two Libyan men, Mo’ad Mohammad al-Hashmi al-Harari and ‘Adel Rajeb Nasef, were acquitted of all charges by the Federal Supreme Court in the United Arab Emirates on 14 March. Mo’ad Mohammed al-Hashmi was released on 27 March and ‘Adel Rajeb Nasef on 28 March.
Twelve military police officers were found guilty and sentenced for the crimes of torture followed by death, procedural fraud and occultation of a corpse in the case of the enforced disappearance of Amarildo de Souza in Rio de Janeiro.
Eight students from the Holy Quran University in Omdurman arrested and detained on 14 November 2015 by the National Intelligence Security (NISS) have been released.
Bahraini human rights activist Hussain Jawad has been sentenced in absentia to two years in prison. The investigation into his torture allegations has been closed. He is living outside Bahrain.
