Nigerian Torture Survivor Freed!

Moses Akatugba was imprisoned at 16 years old, tortured, and sentenced to death. Ten years and over 800,000 actions later, he walked out of prison on June 2, 2015.

February 10, 2012

The six members of the student-led movement Girifna who were arrested on 25 January have been released from Kober prison in Khartoum, Sudan. Some of the relatives of the students have sent their thanks to Amnesty International activists for their efforts.

January 17, 2012

Political activist Mohamed Hassan Alim was released without charge on 16 January 2012 after being held incommunicado for 22 days. He was not told why he had been arrested, but believes it was for publicly criticizing a prominent government official.

November 18, 2011

The two journalists from newspaper The Destiny, arrested in early November, have been released without charge.

July 25, 2011

Idris Yousef Abdelrahman, a civil affairs officer for the joint United Nations African Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) who was arrested on 27 April, is no longer in detention. He was released on 20 July after the prosecutor dropped all the charges against him.
