Nigerian Torture Survivor Freed!
Political activist Mohamed Hassan Alim was released without charge on 16 January 2012 after being held incommunicado for 22 days. He was not told why he had been arrested, but believes it was for publicly criticizing a prominent government official.
The two journalists from newspaper The Destiny, arrested in early November, have been released without charge.
Idris Yousef Abdelrahman, a civil affairs officer for the joint United Nations African Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) who was arrested on 27 April, is no longer in detention. He was released on 20 July after the prosecutor dropped all the charges against him.
Hawa Abdallah, who works for the joint United Nations and African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), was released on 13 July. She was arrested for 'Christianizing' children and being linked to an armed opposition group.
