Nigerian Torture Survivor Freed!
Ayat al-Qarmezi, a Bahraini poet and university student at the Faculty of Teachers in Bahrain, sentenced to one year in prison for reading a poem, was released on July 13.
Hawa Abdallah, who works for the joint United Nations and African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), was released on 13 July. She was arrested for 'Christianizing' children and being linked to an armed opposition group.
Seven men subjected to enforced disappearance since late 2007 are now known to have been released in March this year. They had been arrested by Chadian security forces on 30 November 2007, in the town of Guéréda, in the north-eastern region of Dar Tama.
