Mohammed Najati Tayyara, a retired school teacher from Homs, was arrested on 12 May 2011 following media interviews he gave about human rights violations committed by Syrian security forces against pro-reform protesters in Syria.
Seventy-year-old Alabama death row prisoner Thomas Arthur has received a stay of execution from a federal court. He had been scheduled to be executed on the evening of 29 March for a murder committed in 1982.
On 12 March, Kimanus Wenda traveled from Nabire prison to Jayapura, capital of Papua province, accompanied by his lawyer, to seek medical treatment for a suspected tumor in his stomach.
Kuwaiti teenager Ali Feifel Sahad al-Ali was released on 14 March 2012, after he was sentenced to one month in prison. He returned to Kuwait with his family the same day.
