Nigerian Torture Survivor Freed!
Women’s rights defender Mahdieh Golrou was released from Tehran’s Evin Prison after three months detained for peaceful demonstrations. She was a prisoner of conscience.
Qatari national, Hamad Ali Mohammad al-Hamadi, who had been sentenced to 10 years in prison, was pardoned by the president of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and deported back to Qatar on 22 May.
Farouk Abu Issa and Dr Amin Maki Madani were released unconditionally on 9 April after being in detention for 124 days. Sudan’s Minister of Justice, under article 58 of Sudan’s Criminal Procedure Act, 1991, dismissed the court case against Farouk Abu Issa and Dr Amin Maki Madani.
Saudi Arabian women drivers Loujain al-Hathloul and Maysaa al-Amoudi were released on 12 February after spending 10 weeks in detention. The conditions of their release and their legal status are unclear.
