Recent Victories
37-year-old businessman Yassin Ziadeh was arrested by members of the Syrian Air Force Intelligence on 30 August 2011 in Daraya, near the Syrian capital of Damascus. Yassin Ziadeh was released without charge and his family remains unclear about the reasons for both his arrest and release.
Somali national Boqor Osman Mohamoud was released on 5 January and has been reunited with his relatives.
Young Syrian activist Hanadi Zahlout, who had been held in incommunicado detention at an unknown location after her arrest on 4 August, has now appeared before a court and is in regular contact with her family and her lawyer. She appears to be no longer at risk of torture.
Two leaders of the Zimbabwean social justice movement Women of Zimbabwe Arise (WOZA) have been released from prison, and are due to appear in court on 12 December. They had been arrested in September, while attempting to join a peaceful march, and denied bail.
