Nigerian Torture Survivor Freed!
Egyptian-American activist Mohamed Soltan was released from prison and deported to the United States on 30 May, after spending one year and nine months in jail in Egypt.
Two South Sudanese pastors, Reverend Yat Michael and Reverend Peter Yen, were released on 5 August after being sentenced to time already served in Khartoum, Sudan. The two have been in detention since their arrests on 21 December 2014 and 11 January 2015 respectively.
Five media workers have been released under a presidential amnesty in Myanmar. They had been serving two-year prison sentences for their peaceful journalistic activities.
Djeralar Miankeol, Chadian land rights activist and Amnesty International prisoner of conscience, was released on 28 July. The Moundou Court of Appeal overturned an earlier High Court verdict that had found him guilty of insulting the judiciary and dropped all charges against him.
