Nigerian Torture Survivor Freed!
Eight students from the Holy Quran University in Omdurman arrested and detained on 14 November 2015 by the National Intelligence Security (NISS) have been released.
The Court of Appeal in Sudan has overturned the sentence of Fardous Al Toum, one of the 10 female Christian students charged with “indecent dress”. She had been sentenced to a fine of 500 Sudanese pounds and 20 lashes.
Two South Sudanese pastors, Reverend Yat Michael and Reverend Peter Yen, were released on 5 August after being sentenced to time already served in Khartoum, Sudan. The two have been in detention since their arrests on 21 December 2014 and 11 January 2015 respectively.
Pharmacist Yasir Mirghani Abdalrahman, who is also the Secretary General of the Sudanese Consumer Protection Society, and civil society activist, Nasreen Ali Mustafa have been released.
