Nigerian Torture Survivor Freed!

Moses Akatugba was imprisoned at 16 years old, tortured, and sentenced to death. Ten years and over 800,000 actions later, he walked out of prison on June 2, 2015.

Rayhana al-Mousawi, one of two women protesters at the 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix, has been released as part of a royal pardon on 20 April. The other woman, Nafeesa al-‘Asfoor, was released on 2 July 2015.

Azerbaijani human rights defenders and former prisoners of conscience Leyla Yunus and Arif Yunus were allowed to travel to the Netherlands on 19 April to receive medical care for their deteriorating health and to be reunited with their daughter.

Turkish academics Muzaffer Kaya, Esra Mungan, Kıvanç Ersoy and Meral Camcı were released from pre-trial detention on 22 April. The prosecution against them for ‘‘making propaganda for a terrorist organisation’’ following their support to a peace appeal has stopped but they have not been acquitted.
