Nigerian Torture Survivor Freed!
Htin Lin Oo, writer and former spokesperson for the National League for Democracy (NLD), was released from Monywa prison in Myanmar’s Sagaing Region on 17 April. He was released as part of a Presidential pardon which saw the release of 83 prisoners, including prisoners of conscience Amnesty International has campaigned for.
Prisoner of conscience Mahmoud Mohamed Ahmed Hussein was released on 25 March after spending more than two years in detention without trial.
Two Libyan men, Mo’ad Mohammad al-Hashmi al-Harari and ‘Adel Rajeb Nasef, were acquitted of all charges by the Federal Supreme Court in the United Arab Emirates on 14 March. Mo’ad Mohammed al-Hashmi was released on 27 March and ‘Adel Rajeb Nasef on 28 March.
Twelve military police officers were found guilty and sentenced for the crimes of torture followed by death, procedural fraud and occultation of a corpse in the case of the enforced disappearance of Amarildo de Souza in Rio de Janeiro.
