Violence Against Women Act reauthorized!

The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) was finally passed by the Senate on February 12, the House of Representatives on February 28, and signed into law by President Obama on March 7, 2013. The last Congress missed a momentous opportunity to stand up for the safety of all women by failing to reauthorize VAWA. So women - and men - stood up for themselves. The strong and inclusive VAWA just signed into law includes new provisions that extend protections to Native American and Alaska Native women, immigrant women, and to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) survivors of violence, and much more!

This is an amazing victory that will help end violence against women in the United States - ALL women, not just some.
