Claude Yabanda, a senior member of an opposition political party called the Patriotic Front for Progress, was released from prison on November 11. He had been detained since April 2006 on account of his peaceful political activities. Claude was featured in AIUSA's Holiday Card action. Many thanks to all who send letters of support.

Urgent Action Update: Human Rights Defender's Whereabouts Unknown (United Arab Emirates: UA 200/15)
Prominent Emirati human rights defender and blogger Ahmed Mansoor was arrested at his home in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on 20 March. His whereabouts are unknown. Amnesty International fears that he has been subjected to enforced disappearance and is at risk of torture and other ill treatment. He is a prisoner of conscience.
Amnesty International is concerned about the fairness of proceedings leading to the trial and conviction of Leonard Peltier, an Anishinabe-Lakota Native American who was convicted of murdering two FBI agents.
