Security with Human Rights Campaign

Working at the intersection of national security and human rights

Amnesty International USA's Security with Human Rights program campaigns to end human rights violations committed in the name of national security, ensure accountability for them, and demand they be replaced by measures that effectively ensure both security and human rights.

Campaign Goals

  • Torture: Stop torture and ensure accountability
  • Surveillance, Free Expression and Discrimination: End unlawful surveillance and monitoring practices that target minority communities and put human rights defenders at risk
  • Guantanamo: Close Guantanamo and end indefinite detention
  • Drone Strikes, Lethal Force and Global WarEnd the secrecy surrounding U.S. drone strikes and ensure all U.S. use of lethal force complies with international law and standards.
  •

Through public education and media we counter the messages of fear and hate that political figures use to marginalize human rights and justify impunity.
