The Universal Declaration of Human Rights guarantees not only civil and political rights like freedom of expression and the right to a fair trial, but also economic, social and cultural rights like access to health care, adequate housing, and a healthy environment. Recognizing the interdependence of all human rights, the Demand Dignity Campaign works to advance ESCR, especially for people living in poverty.
As Amnesty International has documented, people living in poverty are at greater risk of:
- having their water and food polluted by oil corporations
- being forced from their homes without due process
- being denied access to essential health care to ensure safe births
