Students and youth have long been integral in creating social change. In today’s technological world, access to smart phones, smart tablets, and social media tools, has sparked an international revolution in the way and ease with which we affect social change. Your imagination is the limit for taking human rights action from your smart phone to the streets. Show us what INSPIRES you to take ACTION for HUMAN RIGHTS on your campus or in your community. Feel free to be creative!

Contest Description:

The Snap Riot Photo Contest is open to high school and undergraduate students in the Greater Chicagoland Area, including the following counties: Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, McHenry, and Will Counties. We want you capture a photo (live or staged content accepted) that inspires you to take action in support of human rights on your campus or in your community, or snap a photo that represents an idea for your own creative action on campus or in your community.

Only one entry per person allowed. There will be three grand prize winners and up to, but no more than ten runner ups. Grand prize winning entries will receive one new ipad and be featured in a short video ad for Amnesty International in Chicago (optional). Grand prize winners will also have the option of receiving a $1000 stipend to start or grow an Amnesty International or human rights student group on their high school or college campus and or/have one or more photos on display at a local Chicago art gallery in Chicago during International Human Rights Week, beginning on December 10, 2012. If the winner chooses to accept the stipend, there will be other requirements for receiving the stipend.

All winners (grand prize and runner ups) will receive a one year membership to Amnesty International and will be invited to attend free of charge, the Amnesty International Midwest Regional Conference on Friday, November 9 and Saturday, November 10, 2012 where they will attend a panel on using innovative technology in the human rights field and a training on using social media and technology to advance human rights with the possibility of receiving a follow up training next spring. All winners will be recognized at the Midwest Regional Conference and will have their winning photo on display.
