Frontline Defenders to Provide First-Hand Experiences on Friday, March 22 in Advance of Amnesty International USA Human Rights Conference

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – In advance of its Use Your Power conference, Amnesty International USA (AIUSA) will host a media roundtable with some of the world’s leading human rights defenders to discuss the status of human rights in global hot spots. The conference is one of the largest grassroots gatherings of human rights activists in the United States.
The media roundtable will be on Friday, March 22, 2013 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the AIUSA offices located at 600 Pennsylvania Avenue SE, 5th floor in Washington, D.C.
Key speakers confirmed thus far include Salil Shetty, Secretary General of Amnesty International’s global movement, Kirk Bloodsworth, the first death row inmate in the United States to have his innocence proven via DNA testing and Farida Ghulam Ismail, a Bahraini women’s rights activist.
The human rights conference begins on Friday, March 22, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. with remarks from a variety of leaders, including Mexican journalist and activist Lydia Cacho.
