Suzanne Nossel, Amnesty International USA executive director, responds to mention of Tunisia in debate:

"The president says the United States stood with the protesters in Tunisia but now human rights progress in Tunisia is sputtering," says Suzanne Nossel, executive director of Amnesty International USA, following release of new evidence by the organization on Thursday of serious human rights abuses, including torture of protesters and a crackdown on journalists, artists and government critics.

Amnesty International is a Nobel Peace Prize-winning grassroots activist organization with more than 3 million supporters, activists and volunteers in more than 150 countries campaigning for human rights worldwide. The organization investigates and exposes abuses, educates and mobilizes the public, and works to protect people wherever justice, freedom, truth and dignity are denied.
