Radiohead, Coldplay, Beth Orton, Aimee Mann, Ryan Adams, Badly Drawn Boy, 1 Giant Leap, David Gray and Revboy have generously lent tracks for this CD. As an added bonus, the CD features an interactive multimedia digital art piece by the cutting edge performance collective, Fischerspooner. Through their participation on this CD, these artists are spreading the powerful message of human rights to their fans and introducing Amnesty International as a valuable resource for information and action in today's world.
"Musicians have been instrumental in raising awareness about human rights and motivating people to effect positive change," said Dr. William F. Schulz, Executive Director of Amnesty International USA. "By working with popular artists, Amnesty International hopes to expand the grassroots movement that during our 42-year history has helped promote and protect the basic human rights of people across the globe. The support of these artists will bolster Amnesty International's reach to young people, who are critical to the movement for social change."
Put quite simply, Coldplay said, “Amnesty is the greatest.”
This Amnesty International USA CD is the latest of a series of events under the Amnesty International Music for Human Rights® umbrella. Through concerts, ticket auctions and special events, artist from across the spectrum of contemporary music are helping Amnesty International to energize a new generation to take action and defend the human rights of their neighbors whether around the block or around the world.
Amnesty International USA & Future Forests
Amnesty International has joined forces with Future Forests to reduce their impact on the environment by making the new Amnesty International: Music For Human Rights CD CarbonNeutral®.
To make the CD CarbonNeutral Amnesty International, through Future Forests, have neutralised or 'offset' the 16.4 tonnes of the harmful greenhouse gas carbon dioxide released in the production and shipping of the CD. This has been achieved by planting enough trees in the Pacific Forest Trust, California to soak up these emissions as they grow to maturity.
Future Forests' offers one of the best ways to tackle climate change. It's based on the 'eliminate, reduce and absorb' principle – and CarbonNeutral encapsulates this new ERA. The principle is an acknowledgement that to some degree everyone contributes to global warming from almost everything you do. But that very fact means also that everyone can do something practical to slow it down. That's why Future Forests makes it quick and easy for people and companies to find out how much carbon dioxide they produce; to provide them with straightforward ways of reducing those emissions, and interesting options for 'neutralising' what can't be reduced.
