ResolutionNumber: 02
Year: 2003
Title:   EASIER MEMBERSHIP PROCESS
Resolved:

WHEREAS the overwhelming majority of grassroots student activists of AIUSA do not even learn how to become a member of the organization; and

WHEREAS by not including our grassroots student activists in the organization's official business, we lose many tangible and intangible benefits; and

WHEREAS this situation should not be allowed to continue:

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that all student groups receive upon registering or reregistering and all local groups receive annually:

1) a simple description of the benefits of individual membership and the uses to which the dues are put by AIUSA; and

2) brochures or forms that make it easy to become a dues-paying member; and

3) dues waiver forms.

Implementation: This resolution will be implemented as follows:

1) A simple description of the benefits of membership and the uses to which dues are put by AIUSA will be included in the printed Basic Field Manual and the Activist Toolkit CD-ROM, which all student groups receive upon registering or re-registering and all local groups receive annually.

2) The following will be included in the Activist Toolkit mailing to all student and local groups: membership brochures (a specific youth membership brochure for student groups and the general AI membership brochure for local groups), copies of a dues waiver form, and a cover flyer encouraging group leaders to promote joining the organization to their group members.

Update: NFP implemented AGM 2003 Decision 2 by providing newly created youth membership recruitment brochures (distribution: 10 per approximately 1600 groups), dues waiver form and information encouraging groups and their members to become official dues paying members of AIUSA in the toolkit mailing. In detail:

1. A simple description of the benefits of membership and the uses to which dues are put by AIUSA was included in the printed Basic Field Manual and the Activist Toolkit CD-ROM, which all student groups receive upon registering or re-registering and all local groups receive annually.

2. The following was included in the Activist Toolkit mailing to all student and local groups: membership brochures (a specific youth membership brochure for student groups and the general AI membership brochure for local groups), copies of a dues waiver form, and a cover flyer encouraging group leaders to promote joining the organization to their group members.
