Title:   AIUSA’s Democratic Processes: Nominations
Resolved:


Passed 91-5 by the Voting Plenary of the 2008 Annual General Meeting

[A] WHEREAS AIUSA is a grassroots organization in which policy is shaped by input

from the membership in such forms as the resolutions process; and

[B] WHEREAS the membership of AIUSA has two main avenues into making policy for

the movement, namely by using this resolutions process and by participating in the

election of members of the Board of Directors; and

[C] WHEREAS an Annual General Meeting resolution is the primary formal process by

which the membership of AIUSA can make decisions that shall be binding on the AIUSA

Board; and

[D] WHEREAS the election of members of the Board of Directors should also be the

provenance of the membership and any substantive or major changes to this election

process should also be vetted by the membership.


[E] THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that should any of the following major changes

to the AIUSA elections process be under consideration such changes must be presented

through the resolutions process at all Regional Conferences and may only be enacted if

passed by the subsequent AGM:

1) changes to the number of signatures required for a Petition Candidate.

2) restrictions on the number of Petition Candidates from each region.

3) any limitation on the size of the nominations slate.
