Abolish the Death Penalty
Stripped of their Rights:
Foreign Nationals in the U.S. Death Penalty System
Since 1988, twenty-one foreign nationals have been executed in
the United States. Virtually none had been informed, upon arrest, of their
right to communicate with their consular representatives. Foreign nationals
often lack access to their consulate and may be unable to, for example,
fully understand English or the U.S. judicial system during their trials.
Such violations of consular rights may mean the difference, literally, between
life and death for foreign nationals on death row.

Exonerated
from Death Row, the Testimony of Juan Meléndez
Juan Meléndez is the 24th person to be exonerated from death row
in the state of Florida. After spending almost 18 years facing the death
penalty for a crime he did not commit, Mr. Meléndez was released
in 2002.

Stop the Execution of Jaime Elizalde in Texas
Jaime Elizalde is scheduled to be executed in Texas on November 2, 2005.
He was sentenced to death in 1994 for the murders of two men. No physical
evidence links him to the crimes, and key evidence against him has been
called into question.
