Western Region - The Human Rights and the Environment Program and the Western Regional Office launched the Alaska Field Organizing Project October 14-15, with a training and strategy-development session. Designed to energize our membership base and recruit new members into the organization, the project will hold an area conference on human rights and the environment in Juneau, and mobilize and recruit activists for
Earth Day 2001.
A training was held November 8-10 in Los Angeles with Human Rights
Advocates, the Natural Heritage Institute, and the California Global Corporate Accountability Project on the nexus between human rights, the environment, and corporate accountability. Participants included members of Amnesty's Human Rights Educators Steering Committee, who provided feedback on a draft human rights and environment curriculum.
Mid-West - Lisa Sock of the Human Rights and the Environment Program was the featured speaker at forums on globalization at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and Iowa State University in Ames December 2 and 3, respectively.
Regional Conferences -The Human Rights and the Environment Program had workshops at Amnesty's five regional conferences and signed up more than 250 groups and individuals for the Just Earth! Network. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped
organize these great conferences and served as trainers!
Southern Region - A regional Just Earth! activist training is planned for February 2001.
