The five-year sentence handed down to two women protesters for attempting to enter the Formula 1 circuit during a protest at the 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix was upheld on 31 August 2014.
Dr. Sa'eed Mothaher Habib al-Samahiji was arrested on 1 July to serve a one-year sentence for “insulting the King of Bahrain”. He is a prisoner of conscience.
Photojournalist Ahmad Fardan was charged with “participating in a public gathering.” He has been released on bail, but alleges that he was tortured by security forces.
Bahraini human rights activist Hussain Jawad was released on bail on 9 January, but is still facing trial on charges that relate solely to his exercise of his right to freedom of expression.
