A 35-year-old Iraqi Kurd, Hazem Saber Ibrahim Qader, has been held incommunicado in Iraq’s Kurdistan region since 17 June, and is believed to be at risk of torture.
Eleven men sentenced to death in Iraq in 2010, are now known to have had their application for a retrial rejected. They could be executed at any time.
Suhaib Hassan Swaidan was arrested on May 23 while volunteering with an ambulance crew. His brother, Abdullah, was arrested on 9 May. Both have been held incommunicado since their arrests.
Osama Jamal ‘Abdallah Mahdi was sentenced to death in December 2011 after an unfair trial. His “confession”, allegedly obtained under torture, was admitted as evidence against him.
