Two members of the Movement for Democracy Current Force (MDCF) have been given jail terms for peacefully exercising their rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly.
The deadline for NGOs to register under the draconian Law on Associations (Law 84 of 2002) is now 10 November. NGOs not registered after then will face the threat of “accountability” measures.
Nabeel Rajab has been released on bail and his court session was adjourned until 20 January 2015. He has been banned from travelling.
The 20 activists are currently held in Tora Prison and are standing retrial alongside five others for defying the country’s repressive protest law, after an earlier unfair trial.
