Ghoncheh Ghavami has been sentenced to one year’s imprisonment in Iran and banned from foreign travel for two years for protesting for the right of women to attend sport events in Iran.
Women’s rights activist Souad al-Shammari was detained on 28 October following her first interrogation session. Amnesty International believes she is a prisoner of conscience.
Nabeel Rajab has been released on bail and his court session was adjourned until 20 January 2015. He has been banned from travelling.
He believes the attack to be in retaliation for his demands for justice following the killing of his brother by state police in 2001. The Venezuelan authorities must ensure his safety.
