Dues-paying members also have the responsibility of choosing AIUSA's leadership and can themselves become members of AIUSA's Board of Directors. And that means having a real voice in deciding the policies and priorities of Amnesty International.
A basic membership costs $25 a year - about the price of a best-selling novel or a DVD. And, if you are a student or have a limited income, membership costs only $15 per year - about the same as a CD or a pizza.
Basically, it's a real bargain for a full year of decision-making power and your personal share of the world's largest human rights organization. And if that weren't enough, you also get a one-year subscription to AIUSA's excellent quarterly magazine, which keeps you up to speed with the world of human rights.

First of all, there's just no getting around it - it costs money to build a movement. Being a dues-paying member doesn't cost you a lot, but each membership helps Amnesty to fight human rights abuses worldwide.
More than 80% of AI's budget comes from individual contributions like your membership dues. So when it comes time to send a research team to Iraq, Afghanistan, or Brazil, and then publish the reports or send our representatives to the UN, you help pay the bills. The great news is that much of the money you contribute comes straight back to you! Everything from activist training, regional conferences, and producing basic materialsis paid for with your dues. In fact, a huge portion of AIUSA's budget is dedicated to supporting our local and student group members and their life-saving work.
