The story of a presumed privilege that results in prejudice

In an unspecified place, closed by four high walls, lives a small, skinny man (Terzo°) and a huge man (Mondo)

There are no doors or windows; there is only an opening with a shutter, behind which is a sort of dumbwaiter. There is no roof, but above the walls a pine branch stands out above the sky. On the branch there is a lone pinecone that falls every day but the next morning is magically back in place.

The pinecone is the only possession of Terzo°, who lives happily on its pine kernels. Quite the opposite is the unbridled consumerism showed by Mondo, who-thanks to a pass hanging from his neck-can gain access to the dumbwaiter to satisfy his every whim.

Notwithstanding his privilege, Mondo is unsatisfied; he observes Terzo°'s peace and tranquility first with astonishment, then with mounting envy and irritation. Mondo begins to attribute to the pinecone a meaning and importance that exceeds its reality. He sees it as a mysterious object of pleasure and bliss, and becomes obsessed by it. He resolves to seize it at every cost.

Becoming aware of the increasing menace to his quiet existence and feeling cornered, Terzo° DECIDES TO DECIDE…
