Pittsburgh Filmmakers-Melwood Screening Room

8:00PM
DEADLINE

DEADLINE

In January 2003 Republican Governor George Ryan granted blanket clemency to all 167 people on death row in Illinois, commuting their sentences to life without parole. With astounding access to special clemency hearings, the death row prisoners, exonerated men and Governor Ryan himself, directors Katy Chevigny and Kirsten Johnson bring the viewer directly into the emotional and legal storm surrounding Ryan's extraordinary decision.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A discussion with remarks by Dr. Marcus Rediker, Professor of History, Univ. of Pittsburgh and a member of the Pittsburgh Abolitionists United Against the Death Penalty.
