AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL - PITTSBURGH
March 28 though April 4, 2003
The Amnesty International Film Festival, screening annually in Los Angeles, Seattle, and Salt Lake City, is proud to make its debut appearance in Pittsburgh, in cooperation with Pittsburgh Filmmakers, and in conjunction with Amnesty International USA's Annual General Meeting to be held at the Omni William Penn Hotel, April 4-7.
The Amnesty International Film Festival is committed to showcasing the best in new documentary and feature filmmaking related to human rights issues.
Few artistic media have the power to reach across cultures, languages, and even time itself to influence millions of people in the language of our daily lives. Film has such power. Each year dozens of talented filmmakers work against long odds, short finances, and threatening politics to bring to the screen powerful stories of human struggle, sacrifice, and triumph.
This year's Pittsburgh festival will feature 13 films dealing with topics from the AIDS crisis in South Africa, racial discrimination in the USA, the tragic outcomes of extreme poverty in Brazil in the haunting documentary Bus 174, a contemporary look at Iranian society in the acclaimed feature film Ten from director Abbas Kiarostami, and much more.
Amnesty International is proud to join Pittsburgh Filmmakers in inviting filmgoers, activists, students, filmmakers, and the entire Pittsburgh community to join us in celebrating the power of film and the dignity of the human spirit. Seeing is believing.
