September 17th: Global Day for Darfur Rally & Concert in San Francisco

According to the New York Times, the world has "three weeks to save Darfur (editorial, 9.10.06)." With 200 African Union peacekeepers set to leave Sudan and no one to take their place, now is a crucial time to pressure the international community to deploy UN peacekeepers in Darfur.

Amnesty International and the Save Darfur Coalition will host solidarity rallies in cities around the world to call for the immediate deployment of U.N. peacekeepers in Darfur. If peacekeepers are not deployed within the month of September, all aid workers may be forced to leave the embattled region and thousands of displaced persons may be murdered. Please join us at our San Francisco rally featuring Laura Tillery & The Cultural Heritage Choir with Sudanese reggae artist Emmanuel Kembe. Remember to wear a blue hat to show your support for UN blue helmet peacekeepers in Darfur.

We're looking for five volunteers to come help promote Amnesty International at the September 17th Global Day for Darfur rally in San Francisco. If you're comfortable handing out flyers, circulating petitions, and meeting lots of new people, we'd love to have you at this event. Please email me, Will Lerner, at sfmedia@aiusa.org, if you're interested.
