Activate! Human Rights Education Coordinator Julissa Gomez and AIUSA West are pleased to support: Latin American Immigrants and Mobile Communities in the United States- 2007 Seminar for Teachers

This seminar will examine the question of immigration to the Unites States from Mexico and Central America from various perspectives including human rights.

The registration fee is $25 (non-refundable) and the seminar will be worth 2 University Extension quarter units.

This seminar is most suitable for middle school and high school history and social studies teachers

The Latin American Center at UCLA invites teachers to participate in a seminar entitled "Latin American Immigrants and Mobile Communities in the United States." The seminar is for middle and high school teachers, and will take place Saturday, April 21st and Saturday April 28th at UCLA.

Participants will explore issues surrounding recent immigration to the U.S. from Mexico and Central America from different perspectives. It will look at the social, economic and cultural effects on the U.S. and the nations of origin. Presentations by scholars, films, and curriculum sessions will be part of the agenda.

For accreditation (2 University Extension quarter units) participants are expected to be actively engaged in the academic and educational discourse and produce a critical essay dealing with the content, and its application to their teaching.
