Write-A-Thon

On December 6, 2006, The Amnesty International Reseda High School Student Group held it's first Write-A-Thon. Amnesty International's Write-A-Thon was held in Regent Hall in the Reseda High School campus, set to the music of the Mexican rock band Jaguares which is part of Amnesty's Make Some Noise campaign.

The student group had displays and information regarding the campaign: Stop Violence Against Women, focusing on the situation of Murders of Women in Ciudad Juarez and Guatemala. During the event, snacks and drinks were given out for those who participated and supported this cause, as a way to thank them for their support. Over 400 students and faculty supported and celebrated Human Rights Day on this date. 448 petitions and letters where obtained at this event!

Over the next two day, December 7 and 8, the Amnesty International Reseda High School Student Group, were invited by teachers, and staff to do presentations on these issues including a workshop on how to obtain more petitions and letters to support these efforts.

According to Jesse Ramirez, Reseda High Student Group Coordinator, "It was a great way to celebrate our Human Rights, and support international causes that urge a solution; that we as youth need to support and get involved with!"

Maratón de Cartas

El 6 de Diciembre, el grupo estudiantíl de Amnistía Internacional en la escuela secundaria de Reseda tubo su primer maratón de cartas. El maratón tomó lugar en la sala Regent de la escuela, y la música del grupo de rock Mexicano Jaguares se escuchó a todo volúmen. Jaguares es parte de la campaña Make Some Noise de Amnistía Internacional.

El grupo estudiantíl tubo una mostración e información sobre la campaña No Más Violencia Contra las Mujeres, con enfoque en la situación de Ciudad Juárez y en Guatemala. Durante el evento, comida ligera y bebidas fueron distribuidas a las personas que participaron y apoyaron la causa como un pequeño agradecimiento. Más de 400 estudiantes y miembros de la facultad enseñaron su apoyo y celebraron el Día de Los Derechos Humanos en este día. ¡448 peticiónes y cartas fueron obtenidas en este evento!

A través de los próximos dos dias, el 7 y 8 de Diciembre, el grupo estudiantíl fue invitado por los maestros y facultad de la escuela secundaria Reseda a hacer presentaciones sobre los temas, y hacer un taller en como obtener más peticiónes y cartas que apoyan estos esfuerzos.

Según Jesse Ramirez, coordinador del grupo estudiantíl de la secundaria Reseda, "¡Fue una gran forma de celebrar nuestros derechos humanos y poder apoyar causas internacionales que urgen una solución, causas en que nosotros la juventud debemos apoyar y envolucrarnos en ellas!"
