2011 Northeast Regional Conference

2011 Northeast Regional Conference

More than 500 Amnesty International leaders from across the Northeast attended the 2011 Northeast Regional Conference in Boston, MA. Highlights included twenty-six workshops, an opening panel of scholars and activists about the popular uprisings in North Africa and the Middle East, a session from Fatima Burnad, a leading voice in India in defense of Dalit rights, and remarks from Sowore Omoyele, a former prisoner of conscience from Nigeria. Connected to the conference, Amnesty MIT hosted a showing of "Education Under Fire", about the plight of the Baha'i in Iran, a film that Amnesty helped produce. Thanks to the participation of the actor Rainn Wilson, an enthusiastic crowd of nearly 300 attended.
